An equation is a mathematical sentence with an equal sign. Two-step equations are called that because they take 2 steps to solve. Your goal is to “isolate the variable” which means get the letter by itself. Once you have done that you have the solution.
In order to solve the problems, we will focus on the variable. We will examine what is happening to the variable and do the opposite steps in the reverse order. Our goal is to undo the process to get the variable alone.
