Two-step equations
An equation is a mathematical sentence with an equal sign.  Two-step equations are called that because they take 2 steps to solve.  Your goal is to "isolate the variable" which means get the letter by itself.  Once you have done that you have the solution.

9 = 2m + 3

9 − 3 = 2m + 3 − 3             Subtract 3 from both sides

6 = 2m                               Simplify

6 =    2m                            Divide both sides by 2
2        2
3 = m                                Simplify

2h − 6 = 2

2h − 6 + 6 = 2 + 6                    Add 6 to both sides

2h = 8                                      Simplify

2h  =     8
2            2                                Divide both sides by 2

h = 4                                        Simplify
